After a brief try-out under the supervision of famed boxing trainer Joe Goosen, Chicago’s Al “Speedy” Gonzales was hired to be Sugar Shane Moseley’s sparring partner in preparation for his upcoming rematch versus nemesis Winky Wright. Although a natural right-hander, Gonzales was able to imitate the left handed fighter’s stance quite well, impressing Shane Moseley in the process. Moseley said of Gonzales, “He’s one tough son of a bitch.”

Joe Goosen also spoke of hiring Gonzales as a sparring partner for Chico Corrales in preparation for his next bout.

Pat Doljanin, Gonzales’ manager, is excited about his young charge’s opportunities here. “The experience will help him mature as a fighter,” he said.

Other good news for the Gonzales camp: famed boxing trainer Jesse Reid signed a five year contract with them. Reid was recently inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame.
