Rostock – Undefeated Ukrainian bantamweight contender Wladimir Sidorenko beat former world champion Leo Gamez with a unanimous decision over 12 rounds in a WBA bantamweight eliminator on Tuesday in Rostock, Germany. Sidorenko who was headlining the Spotlight Boxing event at Scandlines Arena displayed impressive speed, power and combination punching. But the tough 41-year-old Gamez gave Sidorenko a solid test and tried as hard as he could to prevent this 11th defeat in his 46th professional contest of an impressive career.
In the end youth prevailed over experience. After twelve rounds the official judges scored the contest 118:110, 119:110 and 119:110, all in favor of Sidorenko, now 16-0 (6). The 28-year-old Ukrainian now has the right to challenge reigning WBA bantamweight champion Julio Zarate from Mexico. From the event at Scandlines Arena in Rostock www.boxing.de was broadcasting several undercard fights live between 19:00 and 21:00.
