Jim Strickland: Demetrius Hopkins Withdraws from Bout vs. David Diaz!

By Juan C. Ayllon

Exciting and undefeated junior welterweight contender David Diaz' manager, Jim Strickland, confirmed rumors that Demetrius Hopkins has withdrawn from his scheduled February bout against Diaz.

"His uncle, [undisputed middleweight champion of the world] Bernard Hopkins told him that this fight was too much risk for too little money and he could make more money fighting for him and Oscar [De La Hoya]," said Strickland.

Bernard Hopkins recently became partners with Oscar De La Hoya in his promotional concern, "Golden Boy Promotions."

Continuing on, Strickland said that Diaz is now supposed to fight Duva Promotions' Kendall Holt. "That's a more dangerous fight, with all his [Holt's] knockouts," said Strickland. Demetrius allegedly is leaving Duva to fight for "Golden Boy Promotions."

With Diaz showing championship heart coming off an exciting stoppage win over rugged and hard-punching Jaime Rangel, this one should be a doozy. Don't miss it!
