Battle of words between Joe Calzaghe and Mario Veit!
Braunschweig – There are still seven weeks to go before WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe and interim title holder Mario Veit will clash at Volkswagenhalle of Braunschweig, Germany. But a battle of words has already started today on the internet.
"I am clearly angry that after all my training I am forced to cancel the fight the day before my most important defense”, an upset Calzaghe stated on Fightnews.com “I am possibly in the best shape of my career.”
Welchman Joe Calzaghe had to cancel his title defense that was scheduled for Friday, March 18, in Belfast. By doing so he acted according to the rules of the World Boxing Organization. After Universum Box-Promotion won the purse bids for the Calzaghe-Veit contest the Welchman had no permission to make another voluntary defense that close to the scheduled May 7th mandatory defense against interim champ Veit.
“It is all the fault of the Germans and Mario Veit”, Calzaghe cursed. “I am going to take a week off and then return more determined than ever to stop him in front of his home fans on May 7th. Not only will I knock him out but I will end his career. I am now more motivated than ever to do a job in Germany in May."
"This is only blabla“, Mario Veit declined. “I can hardly wait to welcome Joe in Germany. On May 7 we will see who is going to end the career of who. There is one thing I want even more than winning: Retaliate for what happened four years ago and mark his face with my punches.”
