Hamburg - Two top ranked Ukrainian heavyweight contenders will go to war today in Hamburg, Germany, when Spotlight promoted Taras Bidenko, 14-1 (9), takes on Vladimir Virchis, 16-0 (14). The fight headlines an event of Spotlight Boxing at Wandsbeker Sporthalle. The main event will be televised live and all over Europe on Eurosport TV. Five fights from the undercard will be broadcast live and free of charge on the internet on www.boxing.de. The 31-year-old Virchis scored solid victories in his last three contests for the IBF intercontinental belt: He decisioned Julius Francis over twelve rounds and knocked out Universum promoted Russian Balu Sauer as well as American Cliff Couser.
The 6 years younger Taras Bidenko is regarded as a top prospect in Europe and last stopped his Rumanian stable mate Konstantin Onofrei in round 7 in Sölden, Austria. Bidenko’s single defeat came against Russian giant Nicolay Valuev against who he lost a controversial twelve round decision in 2002 in his only 4th professional contest.
