Two-time junior middleweight boxing champion of the world, "Ferocious" Fernando Vargas heads to Chicago for Cinco De Mayo weekend festivities and to announce plans for his upcoming HBO televised championship bout in Chicago later this summer.

Vargas, The Aztec Warrior, will hold a press conference on Saturday, May 7th at JABB Boxing Gym at 1pm. JABB Boxing Gym is located at 410 N. Oakley, near the intersection of Grand and Western on the Near Northwest Side of Chicago.

Vargas, coming off a ten round unanimous decision over Raymond Joval on March 26, 2005 in Corpus Christi, Texas, will answer media questions and be available for roundtables at the press conference.

On Sunday, May 8th, Fernando will be the special guest of the Cinco De Mayo Parade and Festival, Chicago's largest Cinco De Mayo celebration. The parade will kickoff at noon running through Cermak Avenue from Wood St. to Kedzie Avenue. After the parade, Fernando will attend the festival in Douglas Park where he will speak to the audience from the music stage and be available for autographs and pictures with his many fans.

Douglas Park is located at 14th and Sacramento in the Pilsen section of Chicago's huge Mexican and Mexican American community.

Fernando Vargas' career includes wins over current world junior middleweight champion Winky Wright and former world champions Ike Quartey, Raul Marquez and Luis "Yory Boy" Campas. His win over Campas on December 12, 1998 earned him the IBF junior middleweight belt, just five days after his 21st birthday.
