NER Promotions heads South
May 13 Colombian fight card featuring Julio
BOSTON (May 8, 2005) - NER Promotions and Nelaqui Boxing Promotions are co-promoting a pro show Friday night (May 13), headlined by a Universal Boxing Council-Iberamerican super flyweight title match featuring defending champion Ilidio Manuel Julio (33-5-1, 29 KOs), at Los Caracoles Stadium in Cartagena, Columbia.

"We recently signed six Latin American fighters, including Ilidio Julio and another fighter on this card, Jefferson Aurral Rodriguez," NER Promotions president Rick Brutti noted. "It's a good way for us to get them some fights as well as for NER Promotions to grow outside of New England. Soon we plan on showcasing our Latin American fighters in the United States, too."Julio, 34, defends his UBC belt for the first time against Edison "La Cuchila" Jimenez (8-4-3, 4 KOs), in the 12-round main event. With a victory former IBO super flyweight title-holder Julio reportedly will earn an NBA World championship shot in August at a site to be determined in the United States.

In the 10-round co-feature, undefeated flyweight Ronald Barrales (12-0, 8 KOs) faces veteran Alfonzo de la Hoz (26-4-4, 16 KOs).

The 28-year-old Rodriguez (20-5, 18 KOs) is a former member of the Columbian National Boxing Team. He is matched against lightweight Reynaldo Esquivia (6-3-1, 4 KOs) in a six-round bout.The first bout is scheduled for 8 PM.
