“Rated R” Holt Gunning for First Professional Title

Fresh off his attention-getting nationally televised eighth-round stoppage of highly regarded David Diaz, hard-punching super lightweight sharpshooter Kendall “Rated R” Holt, 18-1 (12), will return to action on May 27 for a 12-round ESPN2-televised showdown at Club Cinema in Pompano Beach, Florida.

The 23-year-old Paterson, New Jersey native will be gunning for his first professional title, the WBO Intercontinental championship, against dangerous Colombian veteran Jaime Rangel, 29-7-1 (25).

“We’ve known Kendall was a special talent since his amateur days,” said Holt’s promoter, Dino Duva of Duva Boxing. “The Diaz fight was no surprise to us, with the kind of handspeed he has, Kendall Holt is going to do a lot of damage in this division. This title will be the first of many.”

Rangel should serve as another good test for the dynamite-fisted Holt. He is a former world title challenger who has faced a number of highly rated contenders.

“We’re not looking to baby Kendall,” explained Duva. “We have a plan to put Kendall in a world title fight in the very near future. We’ve had him out in Australia sparring with Kostya Tszyu and we’re purposely putting him in the kinds of fights that will give him the last bits of experience he will need to fulfill his enormous promise.”

Holt vs. Rangel will serve as the Main Event of the Elite Promotions event, which will also feature long-time contender Ben Tackie vs. Puerto Rico’s Edwin Algarin.
