KNOTT STREET SMOKER RESULTS
May 14, 2005.
It didn’t rain, and the substantial crowd stayed cheerful through 10 lively bouts in the parking lot out back of Catalina’s Mexican Restaurant at SE 109th and Sandy in Portland on Saturday afternoon. Joel Caldera is one of the volunteer coaches who keep the great amateur traditions of the Knott Street Boxing Club healthy. Caldera, who won multiple state Golden Glove championships back when he was a boxer for Knott St, now owns and runs Catalina’s Restaurant, which hosts these benefit shows for the boxing club. Boxers from six clubs in Oregon and Washington participated in the event.
The referee for all these three round bouts was Julie Bishop, a coach at the Grand Avenue Gym, who is the first woman ref in the state of Oregon.
In the hectic buzz of the show, ages and weights of the boxers were not readily available. But the results, with names and clubs, were as follows:Darius Hill of Knott St won over Julio Cesar Montoya of the Grand Avenue Gym.
Oscar Herrera of West Side PAL won over Corey Hill of Knott St.
Roberto Rodriguez of Albany, OR won over Marco Medina of West Side PAL.
Eric Estrada of West Side PAL won over Ronald Roth of Bent Nail Boxing.
Jerrell Barbour of Summit Boxing in Puyallup, WA won over Jose Herrera Pepe of West Side PAL.
Jonathan Lira of The Grand Ave. won over Narek Tifekchian of Knott St.
Estevan Ortiz of Victory Gym in Albany, OR won over Alberto Martinez of Knott St.
Lorenzo Caldera of Knott St. won over Jesus Alex Flores of West Side PAL.
Rafael Bautistia of Knott St. won over Juan Nunez of Victory Gym.
Samuel Haynes of the Golden Gloves Boxing Club won over Nathan Lokey of Kelso Boxing.
