Toney-Wilson headlines "Expressway Jam"
June 3 in Dorchester, MA
BOSTON (May 31, 2005) – Veteran boxer Rodney Toney (26-4-4, 16 KOs), inactive for the past 2½ years, starts his comeback bid by headlining "Expressway Jam" Friday night (June 3) against Jameel "Black Gold" Wilson (13-9-2, 8 KOs) at Freeport Hall (IBEW) in Dorchester (MA).

Boston-native Toney, cousin of multiple world champion James Toney, is in a crossroads fight. The former California State light heavyweight champion holds a win against former IBF super middleweight champion Charles "The Hatchet" Brewer and fought ex-WBA middleweight title-holder William Joppy to a draw. Rodney is matched against battle-tested Wilson, fighting out of Philadelphia, in the eight-round main event. "We believe in Rodney Toney and that's why he's headlining our second promotion," NER president Rick Brutti said. "Luis Hernandez was the star of our first show in Lowell and we wanted to bring him right back. Our undercard has some very entertaining matches and some of this area's most promising and popular prospects." 2000 Ecuadorian Olympian Luis Hernandez (12-2, 6 KOs) is scheduled to fight upset-specialist Darien Ford (10-10, 4 KOs) in the six-round co-feature. Hernandez is coming off of a stunning second-round knockout of Robert Kamya. Ford's career is highlighted by his 2004 victory against former IBF light welterweight champion Charles "The Natural" Murray. The undercard is supported by four-round bouts pitting lrish middleweight John Paul Keane (1-0, 1 KO), fighting out of Dorchester, versus Tito Berrocales (pro debut), of Manchester (NH); undefeated Connecticut featherweight "Machine Gun" Mike Oliver (7-0, 4 Kos) against Joey "Mundo" Ortega, of Lowell (MA); super middleweight Jose "Stinger" Medina (7-4, 2 KOs) squares off with James Shedrick (2-1, 1 KO), of Philadelphia; former U.S. Marines boxer Gerry Grealish (1-0, 1 KO), of Dorchester, tangles with junior middleweight Lambert Viel (pro debut), of Winston-Salem (NC); Boston Police officer Tyrone Smith (3-0-1, 1 KO) faces Harold Rodriguez, of Taunton.
