(Photo courtesy of Guy Solis) LYNWOOD, IL, May 31, 2005 – The Ho-Chunk Sports and Expo Center put forth an exciting, nationally televised fight card which not only featured a world championship bout, but some electrifying local fireworks of their own. In the main event, Israel Vazquez (121.5 lbs., 37-3-0, 27 KO’s) successfully defended his IBF Super Bantamweight title over Armando Guerrero (122 lbs., 20-3-6, 11 KO’s) by scores of 116-112 thrice. In the co-main, Aldo Valtierra (131.5 lbs., 21-7-0, 11 KO’s) stopped Frankie Zepeda ( 131 lbs., 15-0-0, 9 KO’s) at 39 seconds into the ninth round.
In a rematch of their war last July, Indiana Boxing Association Light heavyweight champ, Jeff “Boom Boom” Baker (178 lbs., 11-0-0, 6 KO’s) stopped rugged Guy Solis (178 lbs., 11-3-1, 4 KO’s) in a non-title bout at 2:43 into the sixth and final round. Speaking about their bout the next day, Solis said, “I lost last night on a TKO in the 5th round. Jeff was good last night, better than before. Since it was an ESPN 2 show we had to use the small 10 oz gloves, I really felt the difference. His jab & right hand were very good even though I blocked a few of his jabs. We talked afterwards & he told me that I was hitting him good when we were inside toe to toe. I found out that he had over 100 amateur fights so I feel better about that because I only had 12 or so.
Solis and Baker chat after their bout (Solis photo) “Since I was TKO'd, I have a mandatory suspension. No fights for 45 days, and no sparring for 30 days. This is worldwide & there is nothing I can do about it. So that means I'm off for the July 8th show here in Merrillville at the Radisson.” Popular Chicago middleweight, "Marvelous" Shay Mobley (160 lbs., 9-4-1, 3 KO’s), extended his winning streak in defeated Aundalen Sloan (158 lbs., 6-16-2, 3 KO’s) by UD in 4 rounds. Exciting Indiana junior welterweight prospect, Jermaine White (141 lbs., 7-0-0, 4 K0’s), continued rolling on his undefeated streak in beating Sheldon Moseley (141 lbs., 1-10-0, 1 KO) in four rounds by unanimous decision.
