Gary Penalosa headlines “Friday Night Fights”
June 10 at the Lynn Armory

LYNN, Mass. (June 2, 2005) – WBF super flyweight champion Gary “Geronimo” Penalosa (48-5-2, 33 KOs) headlines “Friday Night Fights,” promoted by Knockout Boxing in association with the Rivera Brothers, June 10 at the National Guard Armory in Lynn, Massachusetts.

Penalosa, fighting out of the Philippines, has been inactive since capturing the WBF title last November via a seventh-round TKO of Bangsaen Sithpraprom. The multi-talented southpaw faces Colombian veteran Reynaldo Hurtado Arendo (36-6-1, 27 KOs), who unsuccessfully fought for the IBF bantamweight title in 1995, in the non-title, eight round main event.

In the co-feature, Guatemalan featherweight Castulo “El Poderoso” Gonzalez (4-0, 1 KO), now fighting out of Wilmington (MA), fights in his first six-round match against Oscar De La Cruz (2-1, 1 KO, of Atlanta. Gonzalez captured a silver medal at the 2003 Pan-Am Games during his celebrated amateur career.

Also on the card in four-round matches are popular Marlboro junior middleweight Bobby McAndrews against Mike Bernal (2-1), of Dorchester (MA); Waltham heavyweight Matt Coppola (1-0, 1 KOs) tangles with Elija Dickens, of Philadelphia, in his pro debut; Haverhill via Dominican Republic junior middleweight Angel Vargas (1-1, 1 KOs) squares-off against Rashand Bland, of Cincinnati; Dorchester junior middleweight Robert Hunt makes his pro debut versus Anthony Brown (0-1), of Cleveland; Lynn junior middleweight Andy Rivera (1-0) faces TBA.
