Multiple Sponsors Back Vargas for HBO Bout on Aug. 20th!
BLOOMFIELD, NJ (August 2, 2005) - “ Miller Lite, Southwest Airlines, Sportsbook.com, and Rock Star Energy Drink have signed on as sponsors of Fernando Vargas' August 20 bout against former world champion Javier Castillejo from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, IL, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva.
Miller Lite, Southwest Airlines, and Sportsbook.com are event sponsors. Rock Star has signed a personal sponsorship deal with Vargas himself.
"Fernando Vargas is changing the relationship between boxing and sponsors by bridging the gap between corporate America and the Hispanic community," said Rolando Arellanos, co-manager of Fernando Vargas.
"Box "ing is continually portrayed as unable to attract sponsors," said Duva.Yet Fernando has shown that boxers can be sponsor-friendly by signing deals with four advertisers."
Main Events will promote the evening of boxing on Aug 20. HBO's "Boxing After Dark" series will broadcast the bout beginning at 10:15 P.M. ET and 9:15 pm. CT.
