Halmich and Heavyweights dominate Upcoming fightcard in Karlsruhe!

Karlsruhe - Flyweight championesse from Germany Regina Halmich and several heavyweight contests dominate a Universum Box-Promotion fightcard in Karlsruhe on Saturday, September 10.

The 28-year-old Halmich, 47-1-1 (15), will defend her WIBF flyweight title against the undefeated and three years older Spaniard Maria Jesus Rosa, 19-0 (4).

Halmich, now a highly popular sports celebrity in Germany, is a world champion for more than ten years. She beat American Kim Messer on June 10, 1995, to win the WIBF flyweight crown and kept defending or winning titles all the time since. The most successful woman boxer in history has won world title belts in three different weight classes.

In her next fight after Saturday Halmich wants to give Elena Reid a rematch who fought to a draw against the German last year.

“I promised that rematch to her and I promised it to my fans”, Halmich said. “This was a tough year for me. I fought several top contenders in consecutive fights.”

In Karlsruhe she will walk to ring to the music “We’re Like Thunder”, a Hardrock song written for her.

Co-main event at dm-arena will be a heavyweight contest with undefeated Vladimir Virchis, the new heavyweight sensation of the Spotlight Boxing stable. Virchis, 18-0 (16), knocked out Spotlight’s prospect Taras Bidenko on March 29, convincing manager Dietmar Poszwa to sign the heavy handed 1,95m giant for his stable.

In Karlsruhe the Ukrainian takes on Argentine Lisandro Ezequiel Diaz, 12-5-1 (10), in a contest for the WBO intercontinental title held by Virchis.

Also on the fightcard are the German heavyweight brothers Egon Roth, 11-0 (10), pro since November 2003 and Dieter Roth, 1-0 (1), who just turned pro in his last fight on July 2. Experts in Germany regard the highly talented Roths as most interesting boxing brothers since the Klitschkos.

The 25-year-old Egon Roth takes on Chris Sirengo, 10-10-1 (5), from Kenia. The 22-year-old Dieter Roth will test is skills against Aleksandre Borhovs, 4-11-1 (2), from Latvia.

ZDF will broadcast live in Germany at 22:30 (CET). The weigh-in is scheduled for Friday, 15:00 at Ettlinger Tor Karlsruhe.
