U.S. Marines Boxing Team at Foxwoods
Featuring 5 Conn. amateur boxers - Veterans' Day Spectacular Nov. 11
MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (November 4, 2005) - Five amateur boxers from Connecticut have been added to the Veterans' Day Spectacular, part of the second annual Great Northeast Tour, featuring the U.S. Marines Boxing Team from Camp Lejeune (NC), November 11th at Foxwoods Resort Casino. The Great Northeast Tour, promoted by S & L Boxing, showcases an amateur boxing competition involving members of the U.S. Marines, National Native American, and Team Connecticut amateur boxing clubs.
"Tonight's event has special meaning for me because my son, Lance Corporal Jason LoNano, is a U.S. Marine," S & L Boxing president Sal LoNano said. "Our hope is that this promotion symbolizes our sincere thanks and gratitude to all the brave military men and women serving our great country all over the world in today's trying times. As a Vietnam Veteran I know what sacrifices they are making to protect our freedom and way of life." The five participating Connecticut boxers are 132-pound open Gabrial Mojica, Orange; 165-pound open Tyron Burris, Hartford; 125-pound novice Francisco Palacisca, Stamford; 201-pound novice Bakari, Norwalk; 152-pound novice Edwin Mothersil, Hartford. All five branches of the United States military will be well represented, either in the ring or in attendance, including the U.S. Marines, Army (West Point), Navy (Groton submarine base), Coast Guard (academy in New London) and Air Force (ROTC at UConn.). Members of the U.S. Marines Boxing Team will receive a tour of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, which is on the reservation, about a mile from Foxwoods.
