Connecticut to honor U.S. Marines Boxing Team Thursday at State HouseVeterans' Day Spectacular Friday night at Foxwoods

MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (November 8, 2005) - Members of the touring United States Marines Boxing Team from Camp Lejeune (NC), participating in Friday night's (Nov. 11) Veterans' Day Spectacular at Foxwoods Resort Casino as part of the second annual Great Northeast Tour, will be honored Thursday afternoon at the Connecticut State House in Hartford.

Thursday afternoon, celebrating the U.S. Marine Corps birthday, U.S. Marines Boxing Team members will visit the State House and will receive a proclamation from Gov. M. Jodi Rell at 2:30 PM in the Hall of Flags. Also participating in the ceremonies will be Robert Michael, coach of the U.S. Marines Boxing Team; Sid Meyerson, sports director for the U.S. Marines Boxing Team; Roland Roy, president of USA Boxing/Connecticut; Joe Letellier, Executive Director of the Mashantucket Pequot Athletic Commission; Sal LoNano, president of S & L Boxing.

The Great Northeast Tour, promoted by S & L Boxing, showcases an amateur boxing competition involving members of the U.S. Marines, National Native American, and Team Connecticut amateur boxing clubs. Five Connecticut boxers are scheduled to box: 132-pound open Gabrial Mojica, Orange; 165-pound open Tyron Burris, Hartford; 125-pound novice Francisco Palacisca, Stamford; 201-pound novice Bakari, Norwalk; 152-pound novice Edwin Mothersil, Hartford.

All five branches of the United States military will be well represented, either in the ring or in attendance, including the U.S. Marines, Army (West Point), Navy

(Groton submarine base), Coast Guard (Academy in New London) and Air Force (ROTC at UConn.).
