Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions, with Sycuan Ringside Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, will present a sensational world title unification fight featuring IBF jr. featherweight champion Israel "Magnifico" Vazquez vs. WBC super bantamweight champion Oscar "Chololo" Larios on December 3 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The scheduled 12-round fight will be be televised on HBO Pay Per View as a featured attraction on the undercard of the Jermain Taylor vs. Bernard Hopkins main event, in which Taylor will make his first defense of the undisputed middleweight world championship against the former champion.
29 year-old Larios, 56-3-1, with 36 knockouts, of Guadalajara, Mexico, won the WBC title in November, 2002, and has made seven successful defenses. Vazquez, now 27 years old, has a record of 38-3, with 28 knockouts. A native of Mexico City, Mexico, he now lives in Huntington Park, California. Israel won the IBF title in March, 2004, and has made two successful defenses.
This is their third fight - the first was in April, 1997, and Vazquez knocked out Larios in the first round. In the rematch five years later in May, 2002, Larios stopped Vazquez in the twelfth round in a sensational battle that was one of the best fights of the year.
