Cordova out of Saturday's "Expressway Jam 2" in Boston

WOBURN, Mass. (November 15, 2005) - Former World Junior Olympic champion Marvin "Too Much" Cordova, Jr. (5-0, 4 KOs), due to a severely sprained ankle, has been forced to pull out of Saturday night's scheduled co-feature against junior welterweight Shakha Moore (9-10-3, 1 KO) in Expressway Jam 2, presented by NER Promotions, at Freeport Hall (IBEW) in Dorchester (MA).

Cordova, a 14-time U.S. national amateur champion, had a 186-12 record as an amateur. He injured himself this past weekend working out in Colorado Springs and is unable to perform per his doctor's orders. The eight-round main event pits rival Worcester cruiserweights Roy "House of" Payne (19-12-4, 6 KOs) and John "House of Rain" Rainwater (10-11-3, 3 KOs) for the vacant Massachusetts State Cruiserweight Championship is the main event. Brooklyn's Roberto Benitez (2-0, 1 KO), a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team, faces Ohio featherweight Nick Sheehan (1-2, 1 KO) in a four-round Special Attraction. In other four round bouts on the undercard, undefeated Irish heavyweight and former five-time Irish amateur champion James Clancy (4-0, 1 KO), from Dorchester via Clare (IRE), meets Anthony Ottah (1-4-1), of New York City; Lowell light heavyweight Joey McCreedy (1-0, 1 KO) squares off against Goody Petronelli-trained Huston Crayton (0-2), of Brockton; Irish middleweight Joe "Sugar" Rea (4-0, 3 KOs), now fighting out of South Boston, takes on Michael Rayner (0-3), of North Carolina; Lowell junior welterweight Sean Eklund (0-2) - trained by his uncle "Irish" Micky Ward -- is matched against Carlos Felipe Reyes (0-4), from North Carolina. All fighters and bouts are subject to change. Tickets are priced at $50.00 (ringside) and $30.00 (general admission).
