Brown and Holguin Indulge in Valentine’s Day Glove Affair at Mohegan Sun

Uncasville, Conn. – In a month primarily known for its mushy valentines, Cappiello Promotions looks to set your fistic hearts afire with its latest venture in professional prizefighting, an explosive February 18 event at the cozy Mohegan Sun Arena. When the lights dim at New England’s premier boxing venue on the third Saturday of February, the lovefest ends and the slugfest begins as middleweight Rasheem Brown (17-2, 14 KOs) and Gabriel Holguin (19-4, 6 KOs) look to pump nitro into their respective careers.

Never a dull date, president Rich Cappiello doesn’t call it a night there, offering plenty more fireworks for courting his hungry East Coast fight fans. Yes, Brown-Holguin is just the enticing nightcap to an evening that includes a hot showdown between Hartford bantamweight Mike Oliver (11-0, 5 KOs) and rising player Castulo Gonzales (7-1, 3 KOs) and another between welterweight Eddie Bishop (8-1-1, 3 KOs) and the formidable Favio Medina. Also, the pesky Chris McInerny, fresh off his ESPN “Fight of the Year” smackdown with Anterio Vines, hopes to double the dosage when going nose to nose with New York’s Henry Raftrey in a cruiserweight clash. And in other bouts, don’t expect fireplugs like junior lightweight Melvin Cumba (10-0, 5KOs), heavyweight Tony Grano (2-0-0) or light heavy Joseph McCreedy (2-0, 2 KOs) to be serving up any love taps either. Finally, with this seven-fight showcase on tap, February gives New England fight fans a reason to circle their calendars in an otherwise forgettable month. “New England boxing fans have been in need of a jolt to get excited about,” says Cappiello, the region’s premier boxing promoter. “A lot of the big names around here (John Ruiz, Peter Manfredo, Scott Pemberton are coming off tough defeats. We haven’t had a lot to cheer about since Kevin McBride turned the lights out on Mike Tyson last summer. This fight card here is finally something to cheer about.” Tickets are now on sale for $75.00, $40.00 and $25.00, and available through Ticketmaster and the Mohegan Sun Box Office. Customers may log onto ticketmaster.com; call any Ticketmaster phone number; or visit any Ticketmaster outlet. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
