Sparring session changes everything for local boxer

Guiseppe "Drew" Kidd and Carl Davis shared the boxing ring as sparring partners and shared their dreams as friends. As newcomers to professional boxing, the two Chicago heavyweights talked about their families and, Davis recalled, "we talked about who would be a champion first." They did not know how quickly one would derail the other's journey.

On Aug. 9, they were sparring the second of three rounds at Garfield Park Fieldhouse to prepare Kidd for an upcoming fight.
