Punching Powerhouse Maldonado Added 'Explosion!'

EVANSVILLE, IN - Legendary Midwest fighter and trainer Jack "Kid" Callahan today announced One In A Million Inc. in association with Whirlpool Corporation, Evansville will add Henderson's heavy hitting Daniel "The Sandman" Maldonado to the already action-packed "Evansville Explosion," Mar. 18 at The Center, 715 Locust St., Evansville, IN the sports heart of the Tri-State region.

Tickets for the "Evansville Explosion" are on sale now, starting at $25. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the first bout will be at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Centre Box Office 812-435-5770, Ext. 211 and Ticket Master locations in Indiana 812-423-7222 and Kentucky 270-926-6661 or http://www.ticketmaster.com/

The Explosion's Main Event will feature the highly anticipated return of local hometown hero Welterweight Kevin Payne. A win for Payne will propel the Evansville native into the world boxing spotlight, where he'll face Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., one of the Light Welterweight division's most devastating warriors, in a late April bout to be broadcast internationally on HBO.

Maldonado 18-2 (12 KOs), of Henderson is known for his knockout power and plans to put his fighting nickname to use in the Explosion.

"I'm in this sport to win, and if anyone stands in my way, it'll be lights out for him," said Maldonado, during a break in his training. "I can box or I can punish my opponents for trying to stop me from becoming a world champ."

"There's no doubt Daniel is back and ready to earn a reputation as one of the Tri-State and one of the Midwest's toughest super bantamweights," said Callahan, a One In A Million Promoter and former fighter that faced some of the boxing world's greatest names. "Daniel spends most of his time training and preparing for his next fight and building his power punching reputation."

The Explosion will feature up to six bouts, and promoters are already expecting a sold-out venue at The Centre.

"When we put on a pro boxing card, its always a memorable event," Callahan said. "We're bringing world-class boxing and a Las Vegas environment to Evansville."
