The senior Hernandez is the World Boxing Council U.S.A. Middleweight Title holder and is slated to fight former IBF Light Middleweight Champion Raul Marquez at the Coushatta Casino and Resort in Kinder, Louisiana on April 29th. Commenting on his son's upcoming bout via email, he said, "I hope everything is well with you, I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you sooner. Just been busy training and finishing my basement. I also wanted to inform you that Joshuah will be fighting at the Chicago Park District, at Curie High School on Tuesday, April 11, 2006. "I'll be a little nervous, but he'll be alright. But, he can't cheat himself; I tell him all the time, he needs to let his hands go," said Hernandez, who added, "He helps me all the time; he's my inspiration!"
Joshua Hernandez will be fighting in the 70 lb. weight class in the open division. Miguel Hernandez is 19-3 with nine knockouts as a professional; as an amateur, he was 6-3.
