REIMS, France - Frenchman Jackson Chanet, the defending EBU 168 lb champ and WBA # 1 challenger, was ahead by six points on two cards and one point on the third going into the eleventh of his fight against the hardpunching Mger Mkrtchian Friday (April 14) night in Reims when he got caught. Chanet was down and out for a long time but luckily made full recovery. Jackson promises to be back though. He fought as a heavyweight in the Athens Olympics in 2000 but came in at only 164 lbs for this fight.

Neither Wladimir Klitschko nor Chris Byrd with teams have been able to find hotel rooms in Mannheim where they fight April 22 and both teams are staying in nearby Heidelberg.

Hungarian jr middle Attila "the Viper" Kovacs take on Pole Marcin Piatkowski April 22 in Paks. Jr light Janos Nagy is in against Russian Eugeni Strausov.

The Nicolay Popov vs Nuri Seferi heavyweight clash will now take April 26 in Moscow. It was originally scheduled for April 15.

Florida-based Swedish cruiser Ismael Koné is waiting for his green card but a comeback in Europe is likely to happen.

On April 15 in Magdeburg, Germany, hard punching WIBF supermiddle champ Natascha Ragosina stopped American Carlette Ewell at 1.23 of the fifth round in the headliner of SES´ promotion at the Maritim Hotel. Ewell was hurt by a right, but kept punching back when tagged by another right and went down. She was allowed to continue but took a beating and Belgian referee Daniel Van De Wiele made a well timed stoppage. The vacant GBU title was also at stake.

Ukrainian heavy Taras Bidenko was given a good workout by the grossly overweight Alexei Osokin but won clearly after eight.

Welterweight Alpaslan Aguzum returned after a lengthy layoff and stopped Yuri Tsybenko in the fifth round after scoring two knockdowns and looked good. Aguzum lost twice to Carlos Baldomir in what then was viewed as career defining fights but given what happend since Alpaslan can well make it back to at least European top level.

Jr middle Lukas Konecny tuned up for his May 9 fight in Prague with a four round points win over brave Latvian Sandris Tomson. Konecny takes on IBF I/C champ Humberto Aranda in the headliner of a Spotlight Boxing show that is aired by EuroSport. Female fly Susianna Kentikian stopped Russian Evgenia Zablotskaja in the first.

Jr middle Norman Schuster got a tough fight from Kamel Ibrahmen in an eight-rounder. Ibrahmen was at times outclassed but kept coming back. He was floored in the final seconds of the final round but got up to finish, badly wobbled, on his feet.

Czech cruiser Rudolf Kraj stopped Romanian Mircea Telecam in the fourth.
