EL PASO, Tex. - Calling from his home gym after a sparring session under the watchful eye of his trainer and manager, Louis Aguilar, boxing’s hottest super bantamweight prospect, Antonio Escalante declared he was “more than ready” for his twelve round WBO/NABO title bout against Juan Ruiz, 21-2 (6) of Santa Clarita, California.

The Escalante/Ruiz bout headlines WAR BY THE SHORE another outstanding night of world class professional boxing on Friday, May 12th at the Aragon Ballroom presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank.

The 20 year old Escalante, 11-1 (7) returns to Chicago following his “Fight of the Year” match with Chicago’s Jose Hernandez this past January 27th at Cicero Stadium, a world class battle broadcast internationally on SOLO BOXEO in front of a sold out Cicero Stadium.

“It was a terrific night, Jose was very tough and we both gave the fans a tremendous performance. The fans in Chicago were great and I look forward to fighting in front of them again” stated the two time Golden Glove champion.

At the end of ten torrid rounds, the 20-year-old Escalante emerged victorious via a unanimous decision and proved that he was truly one of the top young fighters in the world, regardless of weight class.

“Fighting Jose was a huge step up for me but Golden Boy Promotions had a great deal of confidence in me and that really motivated me. Juan Ruiz is another big step, it’s my first twelve rounder. But I’m very well prepared, physically, mentally and spiritually” said Antonio.

Commenting on his promoter’s fight this Saturday night, Escalante stated, “Oscar’s a terrific boxer and he’s smart enough to stay away from Mayorga’s brawling style. I think he’ll win decisively.”

Said Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, “We’re thrilled to bring back Antonio to Chicago. Our fans were overwhelmed with his bout against Jose and they’re very excited that he’s returning on May 12th.”

“We’ve got six terrific, evenly matched bouts. Our fans have come to expect great fights at our events and this card looks like more of the same.”
