Chicago's Jorge Gonzales Helps Prep Fernando Vargas for 'The Rematch!'

CHICAGO, May 7, 2006 - Undefeated middleweight, Jorge Gonzalez is headed to Southern California to train with two time junior middleweight champion of the world Fernando Vargas next week, it was announced today by Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions.
“My friend Rolando (Arellano, co-manager of Vargas) called me last week and asked if Jorge was available. He had seen Jorge’s most recent win over [Derrick] Findley this past February and thought he would work well with Fernando,” stated Pesoli.
Gonzalez, 4-0, will work for approximately six weeks as Vargas prepares for "The Rematch" with “Sugar” Shane Mosley on July 15th at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Continued Pesoli, ‘Vargas was at our place (JABB Boxing Gym) last summer for two weeks as he prepared for his bout with Castillejo in Chicago. After seeing the hard work and dedication he put in here, I’m positive this is a great opportunity for Jorge. He’ll learn a great deal of the type of training, preparation and dedication that it takes to be a world champion in boxing.”
After an illustrious amateur career including winning the Chicago Golden Gloves, Gonzalez turned pro on December 10, 2004 with a unanimous decision over Corey Budd at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. His most recent win was a six round decision over undefeated prospect Derrick Findley on February 17th of this year, broadcast internationally on Telefutura’s "Solo Boxeo" series from Cicero Stadium.
“Jorge will be back in the ring later this summer, probably in the best shape of his life after working with Vargas” said Pesoli.

The event, "War by the Shore," is presented by 8 Count Productions and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank.
