Mary Ann Owen – manager, mother, photographer, policewoman, on and on and on. Your basic no excuse woman – although I doubt there’s anything basic about Mary Ann. She and her husband Butch Gottlieb work with some of our best, professional female boxers. You’ve seen Mary Ann’s photos on the WBC Web, on WBAN, in newspapers and magazines; anywhere and everywhere people write about sports. And sometime in the near future, there’ll a book of Mary Ann’s wonderful photojournalism. Can’t wait!

Yup, it’s Mary Ann in her favorite WBC team jacket – a gift from Corrales, himself.

Jill: What led you to boxing?

Mary Ann: At the time I was a North Las Vegas Corrections Officer, I wanted to keep in shape and be able to handle myself. I have had an inmate swing at me several times; with my boxing background he was unable to hit me. I believe if I didn't have the training I would have been injured very badly. The inmate was in his twenties and about 6 foot tall, I was in my 50s. I actually started in Martial Arts, I have a green belt in Jujitsu, I also took Mauy Thai, and I studied under Master Toddy. I enjoyed punching so much I decided to try boxing, my first trainer was Mo Macias, he taught me boxing basic, and then I met up with Roger Mayweather he took me to a completely different level.
