CICERO, Ill. –In a few days, this city adjacent to Chicago is going to witness the infernal heat of a bomb in full bloom close up and personal. So says Donovan “Da Bomb” George who at 7-0-1 and five knockouts, will fight his first fight in Chicagoland under the banner of his management team, Cestus Boxing Management. Spearheaded by Mike Michael, Cestus aims to make a big impression in its Windy City debut.

On Friday, this heavy handed veteran of three Chicago Golden Gloves championships will face Robert Smallwood, 3-1-2 with 3 knockouts, at Cicero Stadium.

Taking a few minutes away from his busy schedule the Sunday evening before his fight, he granted this writer a telephone interview to discuss his upcoming bout.

JUAN AYLLON: How are you feeling today?

DONOVAN GEORGE: I’m doing great! I’m ready to get back in to action.

JA: Tell us about your opponent.

DG: He’s Robert Smallwood. He’s got eight fights and one loss. He’s a very durable kid. He’s going to try to rough me up, but, it’s not going to work. He will realize very soon it’s not going to happen. I’ll get him out of there.

JA: Tell us about your training camp.

DG: We had a great training camp. My dad and I took it back to the basics. We watched a lot of tape. I’m without a doubt in the best shape of my life. I’m the most prepared I’ve ever been, I’m so excited, I can’t sleep. I’ve been training for this fight for over four months. I can’t wait for Friday to come!

I’m 21 years old. We went back over the fundamentals. We focused on the basics—footwork, everything.

MIKE MICHAEL: We went back to the basics. We’re slowly but surely making Donavan into the finished product. We’re ready to take care of business this Friday!

DG: I ran positively more than I’ve ever run in my life. We did a lot of long distance and a lot of sprints. I feel I could do 12 rounds, I feel that confident of my conditioning! I feel I can do anything.

MM: We want him to fill out into his frame in every way. Donovan grew ½ an inch!

JA: What can you tell us about what you want to do on Friday?

DG: I just want to go out there and dictate the fight. I want to show everyone in Chicago that I’m for real and “Da Bomb’s” back!

JA: What’s next, assuming all goes well on Friday?

DG: We’re going to take care of business.

MM: We’re going month to month and we’ll compile as many fights as we can. At the end of the year, we’ll be ready to fight for the North America Championship.

JA: Any last thoughts you’d like to share with the fight fans?

DG: I look forward to fighting in Chicago.

MM: Donovan George has done a fabulous job! We’re very, very excited. This is our first show in Chicago [for Cestus Boxing Management]. He’s definitely going to get the job done!

[Editor's note: Donovan George will appear on the undercard of “DESTINY,” which is presented by Dominic Pesoli's 8 Count Productions and Bob Arum’s Top Rank Incorporated, along with Miller Lite and TCF Bank. SOLO BOXEO DE MILLER, the highly regarded Friday night series will broadcast the event internationally.]
