An Interview with Female Ref Liza Zarate!

Liza Zarate has a challenging vocation. She’s one of boxing’s few women referees. Right now, she works amateur fights, but her dream is to referee professional bouts. I met her in Cancun at the Celebration of Champions. I was taken with her determination and her love of the sport. In an effort to feature all of the women in the boxing community I thought you’d find Lisa’s journey interesting.

Jill: Why Boxing?

Liza: I have always loved boxing since I was little. When I would watch Professional fights and see the Judges being announced, I would point at the TV and say "that is gonna be me someday!"
