By Bernie Bahrmasel
Said Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, “It was a terrific night, truly a chance for Chicagoland fight fans to see exciting young prospects like Tavoris Cloud and Donovan George as well as former amateur standouts like Ashour Eshoo and Marcos Esquivel who looked great.”
Making his pro debut junior welterweight Ashour Eshoo, 1-0 (1KO) had the huge crowd on their feet by dropping Jermaine Sanders three times before referee Pete Podgorski stopped the onslaught. Sanders of Fort Wayne, IN falls to 1-1 (1KO). In the second fight of the evening Raul Gracia and Jeff Curran fought a very spirited junior welterweight battle with Gracia of St. Paul, Minnesota winning a unanimous decision. The crafty Gracia raised his record to 4-0 (1 KO) while Curran moves to (1-1 and 1 KO). Coming out to Sonny Liston’s theme music, “Night Train”, light heavyweight prospect Tavoris Cloud of Tallahassee, FL thrilled the fans with a stunning first round knockout of Matt Hicks. Cloud’s record improves to 11-0 (10KO’s). Hicks fell to 3-5 (3KO’s). Lightweights Marcos Esquivel of Aurora and Timothy Lindgren of Cass Lake, Minnesota, had an outstanding action packed first round with both fighters throwing bombs from the opening bell. In the second round Esquivel’s heavier shots dropped Lindgren twice leading to referee Pete Podgorski stopping the fight. Esquivel opens his pro career at 1-0 (1KO) while Lindgren moves to 1-2. In the final bout of the evening, Chicagoland fan favorite, super middleweight Donovan “DA BOMB” George laid the leather early and often on veteran Joe Varela of Phoenix, Arizona. George improved his record to 9-0 (7KO’s) with a first round stoppage when referee Tim Adams stopped the onslaught after Varela was knocked down by a vicious body shot for the second time of the round.
