We are now facing a new generation of sports fans; women who are participants as well as viewers; women who are breathing life into this sport; young women who can now turn on TV, or go to arenas, and see themselves in their idols. We want to encourage their participation. We owe them opportunity and or athletes as role models. Things are changing so fast. So I thought it would be appropriate to get Ed Pearson, Executive Secretary, and Ratings Chair of the WBC Female Championship Committee, to give us some straight talk about what was, what is and what he thinks will be. – Jill Diamond
[Editor's note: Jill also had the following to say: We've also decided to add a new division at the lowest end of the weight scale. We call it the "Atomweight" division. This is for boxers fighting at 102 pounds or less. In this, and the other two divisions we've added (SWW & SMW), we'd had several people call and ask about challenging for the WBC World Championship in those divisions, and we anticipate, in the months to come, in having those titles challenged for.]
