Robert Morales: Shields takes boxing from ring to page

It's correct to say that Randy Shields lost every time he came up against one of boxing's superstars. It would also be appropriate to say those hot-shots knew they had been in a heck of a tussle.

"Fighting Randy Shields is like fighting a shadow. You think he's there, and he's not," the great Sugar Ray Leonard once said of his 10-round unanimous decision over Shields in October 1978, only 13 months prior to Leonard's first world championship.
