The battle took place in front of packed house of lively fans at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, live on Showtime. “The Ghost” took control from the opening bell with constant pressure and a devastating body attack, never letting his foot off the gas pedal, throwing a tremendous amount of punches.
It was obvious that Aiken was looking for a way out early, as Guerrero was blowing holes in his body, while breaking him down. After every round Guerrero would stare and smile at Aiken, letting him know that it was his night, and there was nothing he was going to do to spoil his coming out party. Shortly after the eight round ended, “Might Mouse” and his team had enough, and threw in the towel. Showing class, “The Ghost” gave Eric a hug and both fighters gave each other props. Aiken, a class act himself, later came over and told Robert “congratulations.” Guerrero becomes the first world champion to come out of the San Francisco Bay Area of this millennium. “The Ghost” and his power team of Dan Goossen, Shelly Finkel and Bob Santos, let the media know that they want to keep Robert active. Summing things up, Guerrero said, “I've worked for this all my life, and it was God’s plan for me to be a world champion.” Look for “The Ghost” to fight one more time before years end. It has been rumored that his next fight could be in Bay Area.
