Robert Morales: Oscar's golden touch includes promoting

Oscar De La Hoya doesn't know about half-stepping. From winning a gold medal in the 1992 Olympic Games to winning world championships in a record six weight classes as a professional to becoming a big-time promoter, De La Hoya only knows about taking big strides to success.

He took yet another this week when he and lightweight champion Juan Diaz came to terms on a multi-fight contract. Diaz was a free agent and a very hot commodity after his contract with Main Events Inc. ran out, and De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions out-bid everyone for his services.
