Former amateur start Williams (left) continues his march towards a title shot this Saturday

Undefeated Cruiserweight, Aaron Williams (8-0-1, 6 KO’s) headlines “Saturday Night Live Boxing: Slugfest on the River”, September 16th at the Plain Dealer Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Williams’ opponent will be Akron’s Zack Page (11-7).

Page is best remembered for his ESPN performance against Lou Duva protégé, Mike Marrone. Page had Marrone out on his feet on way to losing a decision most ringsiders felt Page clearly won.

“I’m very excited about fighting in front of my hometown”, said Williams. “I was supposed to fight on the OLN card in August, but my opponent ended-up getting arrested the day of the weigh in. It was very disappointing.” Unfortunately, last minute cancellations are a common occurrence in the world of boxing.

Not to be discouraged, Team Williams will be announcing bouts for October and November and a WBC Youth title shot in early ’07. “We plan on four more fights for this year”, said co-manager Patrick Doljanin. “With a young fighter like Aaron, it’s important to keep him busy. I’ve spoken with the WBC and we plan to challenge for their youth title in the early part of next year.”

The 20 year old Cruiserweight lives and trains in Las Vegas at the Top Rank Gym under the watchful eye of legendary trainer Jesse Reid. “Aaron has all the tools to become a world champion”, said Reid. “But what I’m most impressed with is his maturity and dedication.”

“Slugfest on the River” will also feature former amateur standout Juan McPherson (2-0) and Cleveland welterweight Delaney Howard (4-0). Fight fans will also be able to enjoy charity gambling before the fights. Tickets can be purchased at the Close to Home Child Development Centers on Carnegie Road and East 133rd Street or by calling 216-235-2921.
