ROSEMONT, Ill. - You're familiar with the expression, "There's an 800 lb. gorilla in the living room," right?

Although in a few minutes there'd be a 338 lb. "Russian Giant" in the feature attraction at the Allstate Arena this night, for talented Chicago middleweight Michael "The Midnight Stalker" Walker--who stood seething in the lobby, the object of his concern weighed closer to 165 lbs.

Recently, Chicago-based middleweight prospect Donovan George and manager, Mike Michael, conducted a telephone interview with me that was posted up last Thursday.* Amongst other things, they discussed preparations for an upcoming match, future goals, and the matter of calling out Chicago’s “Macho” Miguel Hernandez and former Olympian Andre Ward. However, when the issue of possibly facing Michael Walker was raised, George’s manager spoke in fairly dismissive terms.

Walker was upset. According to Walker, Donovan George greeted him in the lobby earlier that day and tried shaking hands. Walker allegedly slapped his hand away and confronted him about comments made in the interview. Some words were exchanged. According to Walker, George allegedly leaned in closely to him and said, “Go ahead, call and make the fight!”

Walker said, “If this was in Chicago, I would have slapped the (expletive) out of him! But, I’m not in my element here.”

“He hasn’t fought anybody but a bunch of guys with losing records! Who’s he fought? You won’t find any bums on my record!”

The two had fought in the amateurs, where George won a decision. Commenting on that bout, Walker said, “I knew I couldn’t knock him out with him boxing up on his toes like that. So, I was just having fun in there.”

Walker continued, “This isn’t the amateurs. This is the pros. Tell Miguel not to fight Donovan. I’m going to take care of it. This fight is on!”

Mike Michael couldn't be reached for comment.

Walker’s record stands at 13-0-1 with eight knockouts, while George’s is 9-0-1 with seven knockouts.
