David's girlfriend, Francie, comforts Estrada after his loss versus Turner at the Allstate Arena in October

NEW YORK, November 3 – In the Roseland Ballroom, popular traveling Chicago middleweight boxer David “The Weezel” Estrada lost by technical knockout in the first round to local prospect Peter Quillin. Estrada was knocked down twice before the referee halted the bout at 2:56 into the first round.

Disappointed, but not hurt, Estrada emailed his candid thoughts on the matter, which I’ll share with you.

DAVID ESTRADA: “I’m okay, just my pride is a little bit hurt. Day stopped the fight in the first round. (That’s the) first time that ever happened to me in the first round.

"I started out good. Then, he hit me with a RABBIT PUNCH behind the head and it shook up my equilibrium. I then complained to the referee and told him what he did. While I did that, (Quillin) snuck in a punch and dropped me.

“I took the full eight seconds, then got up and started to fight him. He then hit me behind the head and dropped me…I was okay. I was looking at the referee with full consciousness.

"When I got up, he came (and) bum rushed me with barrages of punches, while I covered up and blocked them all! None of them landed! The referee stepped in and stopped the fight because he was going to knock me down again?

"I told him I was fine and that you should not stop the fight because that is the way I fight, you know.

He told me, ‘You will live to fight again.’ He then asked me questions, like, ‘Do you know where you are at?’

“I told him, ‘Roseland Ballroom in Manhattan, New York.’

"Then, he asked me a funny question, like, ‘Do you know what time it is?’

”I told him, ‘I don’t know. I think it’s like 8:30 or 9:30,’ since I wasn’t paying attention of the time ‘cause it was like late, you know?

“Anyway, that’s exactly what happened. The bottom line is that I came out of there in one piece. I did not get hurt. No scratches on my face! I get to fight another fight like the referee said. I’m just upset that it happened so quickly! I was never in the groove to get started!”

With the loss, Estrada, 158 lbs., slipped to 10-10 with 7 knockouts, while Quillin, 159 ¾ lbs., rose to 8-0 with 7 knockouts.
