New Book is Tribute to Chicago Amateur Boxing
Boxing experts get inside the ring with some of the sport’s greatest fighters

Before climbing the professional ranks, great fighters like Joe Louis and Ernie Terrell got their start as amateurs at the Chicago Golden Gloves and Catholic Youth Organization tournaments. Chicago Amateur Boxing celebrates eight decades of these remarkable organizations, remembering the champions who made them great.

Co-author Sean Curtin remarks that while amateur boxing is often “ignored by the media”, it deserves to be noticed and appreciated. He explains that Chicago Amateur Boxing reveals “how many great boxers started in the sport and what they accomplished before they turned professional”. Whereas many in professional boxing are “politically appointed”, Curtin remarks that amateur events still retain boxing’s true passion and excitement.

Highlights of Chicago Amateur Boxing:

· Close to 200 vintage images documenting over eight decades of amateur boxing in Chicago .

· Memorable coaches, contenders, and champions from years past.

· A complete history from two of Chicago ’s most prominent boxing experts.
