Michael Moorer celebrates his knockout win with an unidentified companion
4,000 excited fans witnessed 7 bouts with the last 4 being heavyweght fights. The show was broadcast on In Demand Pay per vew with Sean O' Grady doing the honors. The four heavyweights being showcased doing the ko action were Michael Moorer, Oliver McCall, Roman Greenberg, and Michael Marrone.
The heavyweight opponents that were knocked out were journey man Cliff Couser, Yanqui Diaz,Steve Pannell, and Ronald Bellamy, in that order. In the main event Moorer (48-4-1,38 KO's) a former 2 time world heavyweight champion was making his return to the ring after a two year abcence, which he spent as a trainer. He wasted no time as he nailed Couser ( 26-11-2,14 KO's) with a strong right to the head knocking Couser out cold with feet up in the air when hitting the canvas at 1:36 of the first round. Couser was out fort several minutes. Moorer now 39 years old and 250lbs is back in quest of another world title. Some questioned the flab around his waist and poundage and feel he would do better if he dropped down to 225lbs I feel his boxing skills hav'nt eroded or slipped and he will be a force to reckon with agian in the heavyweight division. He is now being promoted by Warriors Boxing. The co- main event featured the best matchup of the night on paper Oliver McCall ( 49-8, 36 KO's) versus Yanqui Diaz ( 13-5,8 KO's). That was not the case as Yanki decided to back pedal and hug all night to a chorus of boos until a few seconds in the 7th round and that's when McCall was able to put him away with a left hook and then a right at the 2:28 mark. McCall 41 years old former WBC champ came out after the fight to shake hands and mingle with the fans and watch the Moorer fight that had been over. I was able to chat with him briefly and he stated that he knows he is gonna face fighters that will be running all night. That he felt great and is happy to be back in the game. It was McCall's second return match with Warriors boxing as his promoter. In the two other heavyweight fights youngsters Roman Greenberg (23-0,16 KO's) from Israel by way of Russia and Lou Duvas boy Michael Marrone ( 16-0,13 KO's) continued there knockout ways over Steve Pannell (34-11,28 KO's) and Ronald Bellamy (14-6-4 ,9 KO's). There's been rumours that Greenberg might be facing tougher competition against Louis Azille (18-3-2) in the future. Look for boxing to return again to the Hard Rock in Hollywood,Fl January 6th 2007 as Don King Productions will be prsenting Toney vs Peter 2.
