IT wasn't easy, but the MGM Grand in Las Vegas has beaten out Staples Center and will host the May 5 super welterweight mega fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr., Richard Schaefer, CEO of De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, told this newspaper Wednesday.

"Ticket prices are going to be from $350 to $2,000 and it is going to be the highest-grossing one-night event in the history of Las Vegas," Schaefer said. "At over $19 million ($19.2 million with a sellout), the gate is going to be substantially bigger than the biggest gate in Las Vegas history."
