LAS VEGAS -- Exciting Junior Welterweight Al “Speedy” Gonzales (16-2-1, 7 KO’s) is back and training at the Top Rank Gym under the watchful eye of former Light Heavyweight Champion, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.
There were plenty of fireworks as Gonzales and contender Kid Diamond engaged in a spirited sparing session. “That was a good ol’ fashion gym rumble,” said Muhammad. “Everyone in the gym stopped what they were doing to watch. I can’t believe Speedy hasn’t fought for two years.”
Gonzales dropped a close decision to Oscar Diaz in his last fight in February 2005.
According to Gonzales’ co-manager, Albert Falcon, “Speedy” is scheduled to make his return January 24th at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates, IL. The card is promoted by Bobby Hitz. “Speedy brings excitement like no other fighter,” said co-manager and assistant trainer, Patrick Doljanin. “Once word got out that he was coming back, my phone has not stopped ringing. We’ll go at our own pace and take fights that make sense. We do not have a promoter, so as a free agent we have a lot of freedom.” For tickets and more information, contact the Warehouse Gym & Boxing Club (847) 831-00723.
