CES signs Lopes & Camacho

PROVIDENCE (January 15, 2007) - Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES) has signed light heavyweight Manuel Antonio Lopes and unbeaten super middleweight Angel Camacho, Jr. (3-0, 3 KOs), to exclusive promotional contracts, CES president Jimmy Burchfield announced today. "CES is going to have a busy year and we need fighters like Manny and Angel," CES president Jimmy Burchfield said. "Lopes is trained by my good friend, legendary Goody Petronelli, and fights out of the City of Champions, Brockton. He was one of the top New England amateurs. I've followed Camacho for quite a while because he's from Rhode Island. He's 3-0 with three knockouts and has great upside. We welcome both of them to Team CES."

Twenty-two year old Lopes, fighting out of Brockton (MA), will make his pro debut on CES' February 9 "Hearts Of Fire" pro-am show in Providence. He had a splendid 21-1 amateur record, capturing titles in the New England Golden Gloves Tournament (novice), Rocky Marciano Tournament twice and the recent Marvin Hagler Tournament. Lopes played varsity soccer at Marshfield High and today he operates heavy equipment for his family-run business in Marshfield. "I've been boxing for five years," he explained, "but my father (Wayne) was an amateur fighter and I've been going to the gym for years. I've been thinking about turning pro for about a year. We put our trust in Goody who had nothing but good things to say about Jimmy Burchfield and CES. We met with Jimmy and he's a good family man who has a real good relationship with his fighters. That was very important to me. Now that I've signed reality has set in and I'm very, very excited about making my pro debut February 9." Petronelli, who has trained world champions such as "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler and Stevie Collins, along with Wayne Lopes serves as Manny's advisor and head trainer."He has good potential," Petronelli spoke about his latest protégé. "He's ready to turn pro. Manny's a clean-living kid, family-oriented, a gentleman who can fight. I'm enthused. He has nice moves and combinations. I've known Jimmy for many years. He's a top promoter, very honest and he takes good care of his fighters. Jimmy's all about family and everything's going to work out for all of us." Camacho, 23, lives in Johnston (RI and trains at Casey's Gym in Cranston (RI). Although he had an abbreviated amateur career with only nine matches, he won the local Silver Gloves Tournament as a Junior Olympian and was a winner in the Rocky Marciano Tournament.Making his pro debut last June, Angel knocked out Phillips Lars in the first round at Mohegan Sun, and has followed with TKO wins against LeGene Richardson and Mike Walthier in his last fight (Oct. 28). Camacho is so devoted to his boxing career than he stepped down as manager to assistant manager at Valvoline in Johnston so he would have more time to train. "It's cost me money," he added, "but it's worth it because now I have a set work schedule and can train regularly (with manager/head trainer Jerry Maccarone). I feel very good about signing with CES. It's a great opportunity for me and I plan on being a good CES representative in and out of the ring. I feel with Jimmy Burchfield behind me I can hopefully win a world championship some day." CES' growing stable includes No. 6 world rated cruiserweight contender Matt "Too Smooth" Godfrey (14-0, 8 KOs), world-rated welterweight Ossie Duran (21-5-1, 9 KOs), WBC Youth super featherweight champion Matt "Sharp Shooter" Remillard (11-0, 7 KOs), USNBC & IBF Intercontinental super middleweight title-holder Joey "KO Kid" Spina (19-1-1, 14 KOs), 2004 U.S. Olympian and heavyweight prospect Jason "Big Six" Estrada (7-1, 1KO), IWBF lightweight & featherweight champion Missy "The Fury" Fiorentino (14-1, 6 KOs), and two-time world champion Jaime "The Hurricane" Clampitt (16-4-1, 7 KOs).
