David Diaz

FOX LAKE, Ill. --WHEN you're wrong, you're wrong. I missed it, but 8 Count publicist Bernie Barhmasel drew my attention to my mistake.

In my interview on Donovan George, I was critical of Top Rank for not getting then World Boxing Council Interim Lightweight Title holder David Diaz a shot at the official title after he'd won that right.

Barhmasel said the following via email:

"David was recently named the WBC Lightweight Champion of the World, he is no longer the interim champion. Top Rank is working on a major fight for him to defend his title which should be finalized in the coming weeks.

"He's very happy with Top Rank as it was their excellent work that got him the Santa Cruz fight (for the Interim Title) and then asked the WBC to strip Joel Casamayor when he failed to make a fight with David--

"Keep in mind that while David hasn't fought since August, he did have four grueling fights over a nine month period from 12/05 to 8/06--the rest is doing him well."

I stand corrected. Thanks, Bernie!
