Powerful Poles Pawell Wolak & Art Binkowski Punch Up NY March 23rd!

NEW YORK, March 2, 2007 — Popular New York middleweight Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak, a native of Poland who resides in Brooklyn, will headline a show promoted by Bob Duffy’s Ring Promotions, in conjunction with Frankie G. Productions, on Friday, March 23, 2007 , at the Huntington Town House, which is located on Jericho Turnpike (1/5 of a mile east of Route 110).
Wolak, 13-0 (8 KOS ), is coming off an impressive stoppage of Luis Hodge in February. He will take on the durable southpaw Keith Sims, 25-13-1 (14 KOS), of Kansas City , whose last fight was against Joey Gilbert of season one of “The Contender” reality show.
The semi main event will feature crowd-pleasing heavyweight Art Binkowski, 14-0-1 (9 KOS), who was born in Poland but now resides in Chicago . He played boxer Corn Griffin in the film “ Cinderella Man. ”
Also featured in a heavyweight special attraction is the murderous punching Venezuelan heavyweight, [Editor's note: the full name of the fighter was omitted, an error, no doubt] 1-0 (1 KO). A protégé of the legendary Roberto Duran, who will be in attendance, Vasquez represented his native country in the 2004 Olympics.
Other undercard action features local favorites Tommy Rainone, 5-0 (1 KO), of Plainview, who recently scored three wins in 20 days; heavyweight Costa Philippou, 3-0 (1 KO), a native of Cyprus who resides in Merrick; welterweight Mike Ruiz, 2-2 (1 KO), who will be taking on Jesse Gomez, 1-3, of Huntington; and red-hot lightweight Carlos Macias, 2-0. Macias’ manager, Nelson Fernandez, who has handled several champions, says Macias is the best fighter he has ever managed.
In a rematch of a sensational brawl, female lightweights Dominga Olivo, 3-1, of Monticello , New York , will battle Ella Nunez, 0-1, of Jamestown , New York . And making his professional debut will be Polish heavyweight Thomas Kurzydlowski, who fights out of Chicago .
Although it is only March, it has been a busy year for Duffy, a retired NYPD detective and former director of boxing for the New York State Athletic Commission. Besides promoting a sellout show headlined by undefeated Irish middleweight sensation James Moore in February, he has been handling many of the logistical duties for the upcoming John Duddy-Anthony Bonsante extravaganza at Madison Square Garden on the eve of St. Patrick’s Day.
In addition, junior middleweight Alan Conyers, 11-2 (9 KOS ), who is promoted by Duffy, scored a sensational second round knockout of previously undefeated Derek Ennis on Shobox: The New Generation in February.
General admission is $40. VIP tables that can accommodate 10 people and include a two-hour cocktail party and a seven-course dinner are available for $1,600.
