JOE Calzaghe is 42-0 with 31 knockouts. He has made 19 consecutive defenses of his super middleweight belt, and he's the longest-reigning champion at nine years, six months.

When he puts his title on the line Saturday against Peter Manfredo Jr. in Cardiff, Wales, Calzaghe's biggest challenge may be overcoming the idea that Manfredo doesn't belong in the same ring with him.

Manfredo is a decent fighter, but he has done nothing to warrant a title shot against a great fighter like Calzaghe, who, in March 2006, tore up American Jeff Lacy in a title unification bout. In his past four fights, Manfredo is 2-2 with two knockouts.
