WHEN I was a musician, I remember the industry complaining caused by Linda Ronstadt’s Nelson Riddle’s album (yes, I'm that old). Again, it hit the fan when Harry Connick, Jr. was touted as the King of stride piano and New Orleans Jazz. I was actually at the Town Hall concert when Jazz88 celebrated Count Basie's birthday and introduced Harry as his prodigy (yes, Harry is that old). My background is multiple Emmy's for music composition and television production. I hung with the haughty-tauties. I was, in fact, the first woman to produce music for multiple Network shows on TV. So, I can afford to talk about feminism and jealousy.
Blah, blah, blah – Harry -- he's a playboy pretender. Yahta, yahta, yahta – Linda -- she's out-of-her vocal league. “Why doesn't the public listen to the real deal; more talented and authentic?” the musical elite screamed. And that's the point. Most people didn't. And wouldn't have, if it weren't for Linda “The Road Warrior” Ronstadt and Harry “The Handsome Handful” Connick.
