Trapping Strohl in a neutral corner under a barrage of power shots at the 2:30 mark of the first round, Cloud dropped him with a crushing right hand and the bout was stopped by referee Tim Adams at the 2:59 mark.
With the win Cloud raised his record to 15-0 with fourteen knockouts. Strohl’s record moved to 27-5 (21KO’s).
Lauded by national and local press as well as the huge Chicago crowds, the modest Cloud stated after the fight, “I thought it might last longer, but once I had him hurt, I was prepared to finish him.”
About his future Cloud stated, “I’m ready now for a top 20 or 30 guy. I want to continue to climb in the rankings but I’ll fight anyone, anywhere.”
Coming into the fight Cloud was ranked #6 by the USBA, #15 by the NABF and #12 by the NABO.
Said promoter Dominic Pesoli, President of 8 Count Productions, “Tavoris was terrific tonight, he’s always in great shape and he’s a true closer in the ring. His skills and power are world class.”
