MSG Acquires Television Rights to Televisie John Duddy v. Dupre Strickland

Live Fight on Friday, May 18 at 7:30 PM at the Beacon Theatre in New York City

New York, NY, May 16, 2007 – MSG, a world class sports and entertainment network, has acquired the exclusive television rights to air the “Tomorrow’s Champion” boxing event, held at the legendary Beacon Theatre in New York City on Friday night, May 18th, between reigning IBA World and WBC Continental Americas middleweight champion “Ireland’s” John Duddy and Dupre “Total Package” Strickland. The fight will be telecast on a one day tape-delayed broadcast in high-definition exclusively on MSG on Saturday, May 19 at 10:00 p.m. The fight will re-air throughout the month on MSG. International boxing commentator Dave Bontempo will call the blow-by-blow; and Tony Paige will serve as the expert analyst for the telecast.

Duddy (19-0, 15 KOs), ranked No. 8 by the WBO, No. 9 by the WBA and No. 13 by the IBF, will face Strickland (18-1-1, 7 KOs) in a 10 round, non-title middleweight main event. The northern Ireland born Duddy, now living in Queens, has been training at Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn for what is scheduled to be his last fight in the United States before he heads to Ireland for two proposed bouts there this summer.
New York State middleweight title-holder and Polish knockout artist Pawel “Raging Bull” Wolak (14-0, 9 KOs), fighting out of Mt. Arlington, New Jersey, takes on Anthony Little (7-6, 1 KO) in the eight round co-feature. “Tomorrow’s Champions,” presented by Irish Ropes Promotions, is the first boxing event to take place at the legendary Beacon Theatre in over ten years, and will mark the first fight to take place at the Theatre since MSG Entertainment acquired the famed venue.
MSG continues its strong commitment to boxing with the Duddy vs. Strickland coverage, the fourth fight telecast live or one-day delayed on the network in the past two months. This will also be the second time in just over a month that MSG has aired a John Duddy bout, his last being against Anthony Bonsante in The Theater at Madison Square Garden, which aired on the network on April 8th.
