Press Release - Pound for Pound King Floyd to Visit Nations Capital This Weekend
Mayweather, who arrives in the nation's capital Friday morning, with long time advisor Leonard Ellerbe and a host of family and friends, will immediately head to Capitol Hill where he will visit the offices of Senator Harry Reid [D-NV], Senator Debbie Stabenow [D-MI], Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton.[D-Washington, D.C.], and Congresswoman Shelley Berkely [D-NV].
Following his visits on Capitol Hill, Team Mayweather will proceed to local government offices to meet with District council members. Later that evening, he will attend "ESPN's Friday Night Fights" at the D.C. Armory—featuring rising stars Anthony and Lamont Peterson—sitting ringside with D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, NBA stars Steve Francis and Caron Butler and other local celebrities. During the show, Mayweather will be honored by the Mayor, visit with hundreds of military men, women and their families in attendance as part of a special tribute to the Armed Forces for the Memorial Day match-up, as well as join commentators Teddy Atlas and Joe Tessitore for a ringside interview.
As a tribute to Ellerbe's hometown affiliation, Mayweather will dedicate the remainder of the weekend to giving back to the D.C. community; spending time with inner-city youth and amateur boxing programs. The evenings will be a time to relax and celebrate as Mayweather will attend VIP receptions in his honor at area nightclubs.
"D.C. is a great city," said Mayweather. "It makes it even more special that I get to be here on such an important weekend to honor the troops, give back to the community and to celebrate with Leonard Ellerbe who is coming home to visit his family and friends. He's always in my corner and now I get to hang out in his."
