Francisco Rodriguez Blitzes Ivan & Fernando Trejo Decisions Juan Ramon Cruz in Chicago

By Jorge Bravo

CHICAGO - Before I drop my notes on 8 count's Friday night's fights I would like to thank 8 Count Production's Bernie Behrmaasel for being such a great host, as he always makes CBZ writes feel welcomed to their action packed fights.

As you walk into the Congress theater you can't help but feel the PRIDE in the air from all the Mexican fight fans in attendance to watch another great fight card that 8 count production put together in celebrate of a Mexican holiday for all the Chicago-land fight enthusiast.

With Mexico's Independence day just a couple of days away PRIDE concurs just like the Mexican fighters did.

While Ivan Rodriguez (120lbs) makes his way up to in the ring in the back ground you are able to hear a very distinguished Puertorican beat but is quickly muffled by a Mariachi group that leads Francisco “El Niño” Rodríguez (up to the ring. While Lupe Contreras the Master of ceremonies announces the two fighters, it's apparent that most in attendance were cheering on Francisco Rodríguez.

Round one- Both fighters come out of their corners ready for a for a tussle, each fighter forcing leather into each other, landing, jabs, uppercuts, hooks and wide swings to each other's torso both fights give the crowd a great first round.

Round Two- Francisco launches out of his corner looking fierce and confident he land an uppercut on Ivan throwing Ivan's head flying back . After Ivan clears head from the unexpected he returns the favor by swinging back at El Niño in bold wide swings to El Nino's body, but landing fewer than thrown.

Round Three- Exchanging is the name of this round, still Francisco connecting those good hooks to Ivan's head making Ivan's eye swell up like a golf ball making it hard for Ivan to see all of Francisco's actions.

Round four- Swollen eye and all the medic checks out Ivan and clears him to continue the round, even though it's apparent Ivan can not see anything from his left eye. While Francisco can see he takes the opportunity to capitalize on Ivan's puffed eye by jabbing and hooking his way to the already damaged eye.

Round Five- Ivan still the determine pit bull fighter struggles to land any damaging punches on Francisco. With sings of struggle Ivan looses his mouth piece while Francisco continues to seize the moments.

Round Six- El Niño collecting points on the score cards and Ivan's eye swollen the round comes to a close and the ref calls it quits for Ivan the not so great.

The main event of the night at the Congress Theatre started out slow but turned into a crowd pleaser by the end of the of the ten round stand off between Mexican boxer Fernando Trejo and Puertorican fighter Juan Ramon Cruz.

Round One started with a few jabs here and a few hooks there, nothing exciting about it, both boxers testing the water before jumping in.

Round two- More punches launched but no firm landing from either opponent through out the round. Juan Ramon Cruz scoring higher in points with his log jabs keeping Trejo at bay.

Round Three- A better round for Trejo after some words from his corner telling him to box smart not wild Trejo starts to do exactly what he was told “box smart not wild.” Trejo taking round three scoring higher that Cruz.

Round four- In this round thing start to liven up as the crowd beings to grow eager to see some big stock exchange from both fighters. With both Cruz ad Trejo landing leather on each other Trejo receives a low blow from Cruz and puts him in a great state of pan bring that Trejo to his knees for a few minutes.

Round Five-Just when you think Trejo is over the low blow he receives another unintentional blow to the groin which makes Trejo to hold on to the rope to prevent him from falling to his knees from another hit under the belt. Cruz ge a point taken way

Round Six- Trejo regains his composer and and drills through Cruz's defence. Connecting well in his drills Trejo fall just a bit short from really doing big damage to Cruz.

Round Seven- With Trejo in grove and staying a distance he comes in for the drill and gives Cruz a big left hook his face making Cruz start to bleed from his right eye.

For the next three rounds Trejo out boxes Cruz, giving Trejo a unanimous decision to his favor by scores of 97-92 twice & 95-94.
