Popular Chicago super middleweight boxer “Macho” Miguel Hernandez has won a few titles, has fought two former world champions, and is currently featured this season in ESPN’s The Contender boxing reality boxing show. Yet, with a record of 20-5 and 10 knockouts, Hernandez has never faced an opponent like this.

Hernandez’ cousin, Andy Giler, regularly joined Hernandez’ boys and corner men in Hernandez’ ring entrances. Now, Giler faces cancer surgery on Friday, September 21. And this time, it’s Hernandez working his corner and cheering him on.

Hernandez took a moment to acknowledge his fans, saying, “Don’t miss “The Contender” every Tuesday at 9 o’clock [P.M.] on ESPN.”

Then, Hernandez’ attention quickly shifted to Giler.

“I just want to wish my cousin a lot of luck on his surgery,” Hernandez said. “He’s going to have stem cell transplant for his skin cancer.

“I just want to thank him for pushing me,” Hernandez continued. “I appreciate him. I always train, but he’s a real fighter: He’s fighting for his life and his family. So, he’s motivating me.

“God bless him,” said Hernandez. “I know he’s going to kayo this cancer, so I know he’s going to be okay.”

Hernandez, who was formerly promoted by Chicago’s “8 Count Productions,” now is promoted by The Contender. He would certainly welcome your thoughts and prayers for his cousin, Andy Giler, on Friday.
